Class Descriptions

Beginner Ballet

Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. Our ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the RAD, French, Vagonova and Cecchetti methods as students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Intermediate -Advanced Ballet

Students will focus on building the strength, flexibility and control needed to execute ballet moves. Each class will emphasize barre exercises and will also include a combination of center floor work and across-the-floor combinations. Our ballet curriculum is based on a combination of RAD, French, Vagonova and Cecchetti methods as students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. This advanced class is for the dedicated ballerina looking to advance to pointe work eventually. 

Pointe

 Beginning pointe class can be taken on flat or in pointe shoes at the instructors discrection. All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles.

Lyrical

Lyrical class is designed for intermediate to advanced students with previous training in ballet. Students will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises combined with basic techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Students are recommended to take this class in conjunction with ballet.

Contemporary

This class will incorporate many of the foundations of lyrical and modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation. Dancers will focus on portraying emotions through their dancing and taking their lyrical training to the next level. Dancers must be ages 12+. 

Tap

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Hip-Hop

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Jazz

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Broadway

This Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.

Acrobatics

Learn the basics or work on advancing your skills in this flexible Acro class! Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. Because we are an accredited Acrobatic Arts studio all students registered for an acrobatics class are required to take the Acrobatic Arts exam in their level. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such skills as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all each student's individual level of experience. And it's fun, too! 

Aerial Silks

Silks is a beautiful combination of circus and dance. Sophisticated and elegant, the combination of strength, flexibility and artistry will get you floating on air while toning the entire body. Aerial silks allow aerialists to train various techniques including climbing, wrapping, inverting, locks and drops. An aerial silks class consists of a proper warm-up and flexibility training and is followed by guided technique instruction. Class ends with a brief cool down. Skills, poses, and sequences taught are tailored to the strength and capability of individual students.

Aerial Lyra/Hoop

Lyra, also known as aerial hoop or circeaux, is a steel or aluminum hoop suspended in the air. A lyra class consists of a proper warm-up and flexibility training and is followed by guided technique instruction. Class concludes with a brief cool down. A lyra class builds skill moving through various tricks and poses while the hoop is either static, spinning, or swinning.   

Tiny Toes Ballet & Tap Combonation

This ballet/tap combination class allows children a fun approach to learning basic ballet and tap skills and terminology. Very young children learn best through imaginative play, so we continue in this age group using imagery, props and songs to teach ballet steps and terminology in a creative way.  We begin to introduce them to a class structure and the discipline of taking turns, sitting in a circle, and following a teacher's cues while at the same time giving them plenty of chances to make creative choices and dance freely. This class runs from September until the year end recital. This class has two recital dances.

Wee-Bop

Using upbeat, age-appropriate music, this high-energy class teaches the basic style and steps of dance. This 8 week session will use creative movement, imagery, and songs to teach basic choreography. We use props to keep the students engaged. We begin to introduce them to a class structure and the discipline of taking turns, sitting in a circle, and following a teacher's cues while at the same time giving them plenty of chances to make creative choices and dance freely. 

Tumble Tots

This 8 week class is designed for our tiniest aspiring acrobat. Students will learn basic acro movement such as burpee's and somersaults. We will also focus on flexibility and balance. 

Contortion

Performance art in which performers showcase their skills of extreme physical flexibility.  Incorporating Acrobatics, flexibility and circus acts.
